Remote | Contract | $25 to $35 per hour | Starting at up to 20 hours per week/Project Basis

About Audacity

Audacity Culture is a remote strategy, creative, and digital agency based in Texas and Colorado.

We help organizations understand where they are going and build the brands, marketing systems, and digital tools needed to get there.

Our operating founders have 17 years of experience in the this industry. Audacity has been in business for two and a half years, our client list is growing, and we have real opportunities in front of us.

We are building the team and systems that will allow us to take on those opportunities while maintaining the quality of our work.

This role is part of that foundation.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced web designer who can take a completed creative brief and turn it into a polished, functional website.

Our websites are primarily built on:

  • WordPress using Elementor Editor V4, also known as the Atomic Editor

  • Shopify using established themes, sections, templates, and storefront tools

You should be comfortable designing for both platforms and making informed decisions within their capabilities.

You will receive the materials needed to begin the build, including:

  • A creative brief

  • Content and page outlines

  • Approved copy

  • Brand guidelines

  • Style guides

  • Logos and available brand assets

  • Product information when applicable

  • Project requirements

  • Strategic direction from leadership

Audacity’s operating founders will lead discovery, client strategy, content development, and resource gathering.

You will interpret those materials and carry the brand through the website with care and consistency.

This includes making sound decisions about layout, typography, spacing, imagery, responsive behavior, interaction, and page-to-page consistency. You will also take ownership of the quality and functionality of the completed site.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing creative briefs, content outlines, and brand guidelines

  • Translating approved direction into responsive website layouts

  • Building WordPress websites with Elementor Editor V4

  • Designing and building Shopify storefronts using themes, sections, and templates

  • Creating or refining page layouts in Figma when needed

  • Applying established typography, color, spacing, and visual systems

  • Maintaining brand consistency throughout each website

  • Creating reusable classes, variables, components, sections, and styles

  • Designing Shopify product, collection, content, and landing page templates

  • Organizing Shopify navigation and storefront content

  • Selecting appropriate imagery or supporting assets from Envato Elements or Adobe Stock

  • Using Adobe design tools to prepare, adjust, or optimize visual assets

  • Writing CSS when native platform controls do not fully support the design

  • Working with HTML and basic Liquid when Shopify theme adjustments require it

  • Building layouts that work across desktop, tablet, and mobile

  • Checking navigation, links, buttons, forms, carts, and interactive elements

  • Reviewing the complete site before internal or client approval

  • Fixing visual and functional issues identified during QA

  • Communicating questions, risks, and platform limitations early

  • Following the established project structure and meeting agreed deadlines

What You Will Own

You will own the quality of the website build.

Before a site is submitted for approval, you should be confident that:

  • The build accurately reflects the creative brief

  • The brand is represented consistently

  • Approved content has been placed correctly

  • Typography and spacing are consistent

  • Reusable styles have been applied properly

  • Pages work across common screen sizes

  • Navigation and links function correctly

  • Forms have been tested

  • Shopify products, collections, and cart experiences work as expected

  • Visual assets are clear and properly prepared

  • Obvious errors and inconsistencies have been corrected

  • The website is ready for a serious review

A careful QA process is an important part of this role. We want completed builds to receive a full internal review before they reach the client. Your work should reduce avoidable revisions and unnecessary back and forth.

What Audacity Provides

You should have:

The following work will be handled by Audacity’s leadership:

  • Client discovery

  • Brand strategy

  • Creation of brand guidelines

  • Initial content strategy

  • Copywriting

  • Client relationship management

  • Gathering the core materials required for the build

  • Establishing the overall creative and strategic direction

You may identify a missing asset, unclear instruction, content issue, or technical limitation during the build. We expect you to raise it promptly so leadership can resolve it.

Your focus will be interpretation, web design, front-end implementation, consistency, functionality, and QA.

Required Experience

You should have professional experience with:

  • WordPress

  • Elementor

  • Elementor Editor V4 or Atomic Editor workflows

  • Shopify storefront design

  • Shopify themes, sections, and templates

  • Figma

  • Adobe design tools

  • HTML and CSS fundamentals

  • Responsive web design

  • Design systems and reusable styles

  • Translating brand guidelines into digital interfaces

  • Preparing and optimizing website imagery

  • Cross-browser and cross-device QA

  • Managing your own work in a remote environment

Experience with basic Liquid theme customization is preferred.

You should understand how front-end decisions affect appearance, usability, performance, and ongoing maintenance.

You should know when Elementor or Shopify can handle a requirement cleanly, when CSS or theme customization is appropriate, and when a proposed solution may create unnecessary complexity.

Compensation and Schedule

  • $25 to $35 per hour, based on experience

  • Contract position

  • Remote

  • Starting at up to 20 hours per week

  • Expected monthly budget of approximately $2,500 to $3,000

  • Hours will be planned within the agreed monthly budget

  • Opportunity for additional hours and responsibility as the role grows

A $3,000 monthly budget at $35 per hour provides approximately 86 hours per month, which is about 20 hours per week on average.

Communication and Ownership

  • Good communication will create more opportunity in this role.

We value people who ask useful questions, explain their decisions, and speak up when they see a problem. We also value people who can suggest a stronger idea and explain why it will improve the work.

You should be comfortable identifying when:

    • A layout is not supporting the content clearly

    • A brand style does not translate well to the interface

    • A requested interaction may create a usability problem

    • An asset is not strong enough for its intended use

    • A page is missing information needed to complete the build

    • Elementor or Shopify has a limitation that requires another approach

    • An app, plugin, or customization will create maintenance concerns

    • A legacy design pattern should be reconsidered

We expect those conversations to be thoughtful, specific, and focused on the quality of the work.

Paid Test Project

Selected candidates will begin with a paid test page.

The test project will pay $300 to $600, depending on the scope. The page may be built in WordPress with Elementor or in Shopify.

We will provide the brief, content, brand direction, and available assets.

The test will help us evaluate:

  • How you interpret a brief

  • How you apply a brand system

  • Your platform knowledge

  • Your use of reusable styles

  • Your responsive decisions

  • Your attention to detail

  • Your QA process

  • How you communicate questions and decisions

  • How accurately you estimate and manage your time

Any test work will be paid. The platform, scope, rate, timeline, and intended use will be agreed upon before work begins.

This role has room to grow.

Someone who consistently produces strong work, communicates well, brings useful ideas, and takes ownership can earn more hours and greater creative responsibility.

That growth may include:

  • Contributing earlier in the design process

  • Helping shape website concepts

  • Creating Figma layouts and design systems

  • Supporting more complex WordPress and Shopify builds

  • Improving Audacity’s internal web production standards

  • Helping determine the right platform for future projects

  • Mentoring future team members

  • Participating in selected internal or client conversations

  • Challenging outdated patterns and helping us develop better ones

You will have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from industry veterans with a long record of successful creative and digital work.

Audacity is still being shaped. The person who succeeds in this role can have a meaningful influence on what our web practice becomes.

We are looking for an experienced designer who can read the brief, understand the brand, make good front-end decisions, and take responsibility for the finished website.
